Future Studies as Interactive Performance

Din Fortid er Deres Nu, Vendsyssel Teater, October 2018

by Inga Gerner Nielsen in collaboration with TwLetteratura and RELATE, Art & Technology Aalborg University.

Supported by UngAalborg KUL, KulturKANTens Talentlaboratorium and Hjørring Kommunes pulje for Nyskabende Initativer

The project draws on the tactile interaction designs for sharing memories in the installation STORIES OBJECTS HOLD developed in collaboration with Madeleine Kate from Other Story. And on Sensing the Future, a new Future Studies scenario method combining back-casting with performance installations by Fiction Pimps in the House of Futures seminars In 100 Years – Starting Now.

In ‘Din Fortid er Deres Nu’ (Your Past is Their/s Now), Inga Gerner Nielsen combines these previous works within Future Studies and Performance with phenomenological interview methods, she has developed to help audience describe their experience in interactive art. Moreover, the collaboration with TwLetteratura creates the possibility for incorporating  their reading-app Betwyll in developing scenarios with the performers and audience prior to and after the performance.

Articles about the performance installation and its methods are currently waiting to be written, based on the Art Based Research Professor Falk Heinrich has done following the artistic process closely together with his students from Art & Technology, who participated through being trained as interactive performers for the piece. This training is part of an art education in interactive performance initiated in 2018 and now funded another year by KulturKANTen´s Talentlaboratorium.

Stay tuned.

Until then, here are a selection pictures of the interactions seen from a distance. And a few examples of the exhibition of personal stories which the close encounter between performers and audience accumulated.
